Public Accounts Committee; Accountability and Government
Halifax, NS: Last month the McNeil Government made the decision to the restrict the Public Accounts Committee. The committee can no longer discuss topics unless they come from the Auditor General’s reports.
The public accounts committee is viewed as the most powerful standing committee in the legislature. It’s purpose has been to review public spending, Auditor General reports and any other matters which involve public funds.
The Atlantica Party believes that the MacNeil government must reverse this decision. By restricting topics and witnesses called to speak the committee is effectively muzzled. How can Nova Scotians have confidence in the government when accountability is being dismantled?
