The Atlantica Party will make Nova Scotia MLAs recallable as part of its Political Revolution.
The news abounds with recalls of defective consumer items, vehicles, food and health products. But there is very little about recalling a politician. We can recall bad turkeys overnight, but we cannot recall a bad MLA!

Recall allows a by-election to be triggered by constituents via a signature program and cannot be blocked by anyone, including the Premier and the parties. As well, the sitting MLA can run on their record in the new by-election. Nova Scotia's recall legislation will be modelled on BC's Recall.
Nova Scotia will become the second province in Canada to adopt Recall. However, until Recall is established, all elected Atlantica Party MLAs vow to be recallable; they will resign their seat after a successful signature campaign according to the BC model. "Recall will motivate a representative to represent their constituency in the Legislature," said Jonathan Dean, Leader of the Atlantica Party. "If for some reason constituents felt they were not being represented faithfully, they can remedy the problem by triggering a by-election."
According to BC's recall mechanism, 40% of the riding has to sign on within 60 days. "That is quite tough but good since it stops partisan and frivolous recalls, 19 of 20 recalls in BC failed to reach the target," said Dean.

The Atlantica Party was established in 2006 to promote a political revolution in Nova Scotia to fix our broken political system and empower the voter. It is the only political alternative committed to making Nova Scotia a "have" province.
