THE PARTY
Who is the Atlantica Party?
We are a group of unaffiliated citizens concerned about Nova Scotians' future. We founded The Atlantica Party four years ago to propose and investigate new and exciting ideas for Nova Scotians, many ideas you will not hear about from the other parties. Although the party is a provincial party we are have a regional outlook and we are planning to seeking official status in each of the four provinces of Atlantic Canada.
Why should I support the Atlantica Party?
If you agree with even a few of these proposals for change then supporting the Atlantica Party is the surest way of getting something done. It is a maxim that throughout history political elites have always regarded their system as the epitome of political management and have regarded substantive reform as laughable or even dangerous. However from time to time the people have risen up and refined the system, it has occurred various times in Atlantic Canada in the last 250 years (the last time in Nova Scotia was in 1847 and the most recent was 1949 in Newfoundland & Labrador), that is how we have progressed to our current system. We are overdue for the next step forward. Only the Atlantica Party is committed to taking that step!
Who are we affiliated with?
The Atlantica Party is completely independent, made up of unaffiliated private citizens. We are not affiliated with nor receive funding from any corporations, special interest groups, other political parties, or any level of government. And never will.
Are you involved in the Atlantica Free Trade Zone?
No.
Why did you use the name Atlantica?
We choose the name quite a few years ago and we did not pick it up from free trade zone rather we use it to mirror the concept of Cascadia on the west coast. It works equally well in English and in French. It is a fairly common name (a resort, a mall, a cruise ship, several companies, even an ancient landmass). And no, we do not want to call a united Atlantic Canada Atlantica.
Why are you provincial and not federal?
Simple. Our intent is substantive reform for Atlantic Canada and it is easier to form a provincial government rather than go up against Ottawa and the vested interests at the national level. However this does not preclude us from forming a regional federal party in the future based in Atlantic Canada.
