DEMOCRACY MANIFESTO
We are Nova Scotia patriots who love our heritage of liberty and democracy, and we believe it is the individual, not the government, that is responsible for the good in our society. We expect our elected officials to serve us and address our issues effectively according to our democratic will while maintaining a high standard of conduct. The legislature is our house and the government is our government, we have the final say.

  1. Fixed election dates.
  2. Electoral reform to give fair PR-like results in the house while retaining the elector-representative link.
  3. Make it much easier for independents to run in elections.
  4. Elimination of taxpayers' money for political parties.
  5. Unrestricted political donations but only from an elector in NS, no corporations or groups with real time disclosure.
  6. Fully transparent working of the House including the real time disclosure of all voting in the House.
  7. Recall.    Constituents can trigger a by-election.
  8. Citizen Initiative.    Binding citizen inspired referendums.
  9. Direct election of the Premier. Premier appoints cabinet from the general public, but vetted by House.
  10. A full separation of powers ending strict government and party control of the House. The House becomes the people's House again returning the legislature to its traditional role where every vote is a free vote.
  11. A written Provincial Constitution.
  12. Full real time disclosure of all government expenses and outlays including MLA salaries and expenses.
  13. A mandatory democracy credit in schools.
The vote portion for each party should be fairly reflected in the seat totals. A party that gets 40% of the vote should not get 60% of the seats.
The representative is free to take all points of view into consideration including constituents when deciding how to vote issue by issue.
A CI is a signature campaign to place a referendum question on a ballot.
Recall allows a riding signature campaign to trigger a by-election.
Unless two MLAs request a recorded vote in the house the voting is not recorded. The vast majority of voting is currently not recorded.
