OUR ECONOMIC VISION
Nova Scotia is poor and getting poorer. For the last fifty years government has mismanaged the economy causing tens of thousands of people to leave the province. We are over-taxed, too much in debt, government is too big and the private sector is hampered. Conditions are projected to worsen. We do not want to see Nova Scotia as a 'failed' province. It is time to reverse that trend and make Nova Scotia prosperous. We want to make Nova Scotia is the most competitive and entrepreneurial-friendly province in Canada by lowering the cost of doing business so that the spirit, drive and genius of Nova Scotians can soar. An Atlantica Party government pledges to:
- Explore the cost savings in a flat tax.
- Lowering taxes on personal income and eliminating corporate taxes to make Nova Scotia the lowest-taxed province in Canada.
- Set hard targets to make Nova Scotia a ‘have’ province.
- Make Nova Scotia a ‘hot’ growth area in North America; an Atlantic Tiger, to attract people back to Nova Scotia and reverse our demographic decline.
- Target debt elimination.
- Target government spending as a percentage of GDP in the mid-30s.
- Adopt an aggressive privatization program targeting the liquor industry among others.
- Create an Office of Deregulation.
- Encourage regional private venture capital and start up support for entrepreneurs.
- Start the move towards regional agencies such as an Atlantic Canadian Securities Commission.
